Frances Gibbons is currently serving as ICT Project Manager for Precision ALS, where she leads the technical team in the development and delivery of the Precision ALS Platform. With extensive experience in Health Informatics and Laboratory IT, Frances brings a unique and strategic perspective to the project, ensuring high standards in data quality, integration, and system interoperability. Her expertise in data and change management plays a critical role in the success of the project.

Frances spent 11 years in the Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine at Temple Street Children’s University Hospital, including 3 years as the Laboratory IT Specialist. In this role, she managed the hospital’s laboratory information systems and led projects aimed at improving patient care through seamless data integration.

She played a pivotal role in the national rollout of the Individual Health Identifier (IHI) across all hospitals in Ireland, with a particular focus on data management. Frances oversaw efforts to address duplicate records and championed the harmonisation of health data using established FHIR standards. As part of the Health Identifier Programme, she developed protocols to streamline data integration, improve accuracy, and maintain consistency across the Irish healthcare system.

Frances holds a Master’s Degree in Health Informatics from Trinity College Dublin, where she graduated with distinction. Her research on the role of identification in supporting metabolic dieticians and scientists caring for and researching Phenylketonuria (PKU) has provided valuable insights into health data integration.

Building on her extensive experience in Health Informatics and Laboratory IT, Frances is committed to optimising workflows, ensuring system integration, and driving the successful delivery of key technology initiatives. Her expertise in Agile project management plays a critical role in the successful implementation of technological solutions for Precision ALS, advancing data management and supporting research outcomes.
